Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ‘hates’ Antetokounmpo more because he keeps making history for the Bucks in his favor.
Despite the overwhelming pressure he put on himself to perform well, Anteto once again destroyed the franchise’s legacy. The Milwaukee Bucks lost 112-108, despite the Greek center’s own criticism directed at his teammates and his ultimatum that they had four months to turn things around. Giannis reached 18 career games with at least 45 points scored when he scored 48 points against the Rockets.
Abdul-Jabbar’s record is equaled by Antetokounmpo
By achieving this, he matched the record holder in Bucks history, none other than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Against the Indiana Pacers this season, the Greek scored 64 points, shattering the team record for most points in a game. His 48 points against the Rockets was, in fact, his second straight game with 40 or more points, and his sixth overall this season.
While the famous center did so twice more with the Los Angeles Lakers for a total of 20, Giannis now matches Abdul-Jabbar in overall club scoring.
As of right now, Giannis is the 18th player in the NBA history with the most games played in 45 or more. He trails Larry Bird and Damian Lillard by one, Jabbar and Westbrook and Durant by two, and Jerry West by three. He is tied with Bob Pettit and Bernard King. All of them lag much behind the indisputable leader, Wilt Chamberlain, with 176, and second-place player, Michael Jordan, with 76.
During a 10-game period in the same season, Antetokounmpo became just the third player in history to average 32 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists on 55% shooting. With his performance against Houston, he also joined an elite group. The Greek was preceded by Wilt Chamberlain in 1966 and 1967 and Nikola Jokic in 2022.
