The current favorites to land an All-Star slugger are the Red Sox and Blue Jays.
This offseason, Boston has been connected to many sluggers but hasn’t been able to close a deal. The Red Sox have been connected to many sluggers to cover the void left by Justin Turner’s anticipated departure in free agency.
The Los Angeles Dodgers unexpectedly completed a trade, and the Red Sox lost out on All-Star Teoscar Hernández, who appeared to be in their grasp. Boston has been connected to fellow All-Star Jorge Soler after passing on him.
Soler may be a great fit for Boston since they need a right-handed batter in the center of the lineup with some power. The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays are presently considered the favorites to sign him after he had a successful season with the Miami Marlins last year.
“Jorge Soler, I think Boston and Toronto are the teams that are most likely at the moment,” stated Heyman. “The circumstances are obviously changing. Things are subject to change. He had a fantastic season with Miami last year and is a fantastic offensive player. I don’t see him returning to Miami since Miami looks to be, at the very least, retooling. Seattle investigated him, but I don’t believe that will occur either.”
Soler was selected for his first All-Star team last season after playing with the Marlins for the previous two seasons. In 137 games, he showed promise with 36 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a slash line of.250/.341/.512. Boston must act swiftly if it hopes to land Soler and must react soon.
