New Zealand defeats Pakistan in the series thanks to a barrage from Finn Allen.
Following the conclusion of the third Twenty20 International match, the New Zealand team had a commanding lead over Pakistan in the five-match 20-over series. Following their toss victory, Pakistan chose to field first. Their decision, nevertheless, did not benefit them because they were unable to slow down the Kiwis’ run speed.
Following his choice to bowl after winning the toss, Pakistani skipper Shaheen Afridi was rattled by Allen’s (137 runs off 62 balls) onslaught. As the hosts roared to 67/1 in the powerplay, the Blackcaps demonstrated their intent. After Devon Conway left the game early, Allen and Tim Seifert spearheaded the attack at bat, combining for 125 runs.
The opening ball of the eighteenth over saw Allen smash a six, pushing New Zealand over the 200-run mark. The next ball, Zaman Khan got rid of Allen, which gave Pakistan a chance to stop the runs from flowing. Just 13 runs were let up by the Men in Green in the last two overs.
With a final score of 224-7, New Zealand was able to force the surrender of players like Afridi and Harsi Rauf, who scored 1/43 and 2/60, respectively. Among the Pakistani bowlers, Mohammad Wasim’s 1/35 (4) stint was the least expensive.
Pakistan needed to chase down 225 runs from 20 overs, and they started the second inning with Saim Ayub (10 runs from 13 balls) and Mohammad Rizwan (24 runs from 20 balls). However, when the Kiwis claimed early wickets, the openers found it difficult to have an impact.
Though the ‘Men in Green’ had one noteworthy batsman, Babar Azam (58 runs off 37 balls), who helped them get into a better position, the hosts denied the visitors a chance to form a solid partnership.
After 20 overs, Shaheen Afridi (16*) and Mohammad Wasim Jr. (1*) ultimately led Pakistan to 179/7, maintaining their perfect record at the bat. Tim Southee spearheaded the Kiwi bowling attack, taking two wickets in his four-over effort.
Following the game, Allen received the title of “Player of the Match” in recognition of his spectacular hit during the opening inning.
