Knicks Rumors: NY Shops at Deadline for Draft Picks, Quentin Grimes, and Evan Fournier
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Knicks are looking to improve their roster by trading Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes, and draft selections within the next three weeks.
The Knicks have been linked to a number of players leading up to the deadline. Ian Begley of SNY reported on Thursday that certain members in the organization are interested in bringing in Bruce Brown Jr.
Brown was moved to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday as part of Pascal Siakam’s transaction with the Indiana Pacers.
Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray has been linked to the Knicks. However, Scotto stated that the package of Fournier, Grimes, and selections is being utilized to investigate other potential moves.
Fournier’s contract is likely expiring, but he has a club option for $19 million in 2024-25. For the most of the last two seasons, he has been forced to sit on the bench.
The 31-year-old has only played in two games this season, the most recent on December 30 against the Indiana Pacers.
Grimes has also seen his playing time significantly reduced this season. He averaged a career-high 11.3 points on 46.8 percent shooting in 29.9 minutes per game over 71 appearances last season, but his averages have dropped to 7.1 points on 40.0 percent shooting in 19.8 minutes per game over 38 games in 2023-24.
The Knicks might have up to four first-round draft selections in 2024, but protections on their picks from the Washington Wizards (top 12) and Detroit Pistons (top 18) make it unlikely that either one is traded.
The Knicks have won seven of their past nine games and sit sixth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 24-17. They are only three games behind the Philadelphia 76ers for the third slot.
