The Florida Gators are under NCAA investigation.
In October, the letter was sought by The Tampa Bay Times. After questions from the Times’ legal counsel at Thomas & LoCicero, the request was eventually granted on Friday.
“We have collaborated with the NCAA and will persist in doing so,” Gators spokesman Steve McClain stated. “On and off the field, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of honesty and excellence. We are unable to provide further remarks due to NCAA regulations regarding confidentiality.
The paper makes no mention of the precise scope of the inquiry or any infractions. Under former coach Dan Mullen, the Gators were placed on one-year probation in December 2020 for recruiting infractions.
Mullen and an assistant spoke with a recruit who had not completed his junior year of high school, constituting a Level II offense. Unauthorized interaction between coaches and prospects en route to a Tampa tournament was the subject of a Level III infringement.
The inquiry is underway as law enforcement attempts to stay up to date with the rapidly changing fields of name, image, and likeness and recruiting. After offensive coordinator Alex Atkins drove a transfer candidate to a meeting with a booster who led a NIL collective last week, Florida State was penalized.
The NCAA and the Seminoles arranged a compromise in which the supporter provided the prospect $15,000 as a recruiting enticement.
