Breaking: The Drua home game won’t be altered.
This season, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua team will play according to its home game schedule.
Despite the stadium being completed in two weeks, head of commercial and marketing Shane Hussein has stated that no more games will be moved to Suva. Every Super Rugby match needs careful planning, according to Hussein, especially with an expected influx of international supporters.
“The timetable for the 2024 season is fixed; teams have planned their travel and lodging, spectators are purchasing tickets, and the competition, Super Rugby Pacific, requires that certain days be determined. Right now, a lot of admirers are purchasing tickets from abroad. That there is a sizable contingent there for such games is really noteworthy.
Even if they wanted to hold more games in the nation’s capital, he continues, it would be too late to make changes at this point.
“We will find it extremely challenging to make any changes to the Fijian venues, so you will likely be looking at the same location with five, with two being split between Lautoka and Suva.”
On March 9, the Drua will play their first home game at Churchill Park in Lautoka against the Crusaders at 1:05 p.m.
