Kim Mulkey discusses LSU women’s basketball team’s narrow defeat against top-ranked South Carolina.
On Thursday night, the Tigers were only inches away from upset-ing the nation’s best team. Taking on the unbeaten, top-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, LSU led the game for nearly thirty minutes and the first three quarters. However, after Angel Reese fouled out early in the fourth quarter, the Tigers were unable to hold on, losing 76-70 to fall to 4-2 in the SEC and 17-3 overall.
Moral triumphs don’t appeal to me. According to ON3, coach Kim Mulkey stated following the game, “Never have been.” “We missed opportunities to win this game.” I’ll undoubtedly sleep through the night. I’m not sure how much sleep I’ll get, but that’s a personality issue.
Mulkey continued by focusing on the particular issues that occurred during the fourth quarter, when LSU was defeated 24–14.
Mulkey declared, “We have to recover the ball.” “South Carolina played with a little bit more energy at the beginning of the quarter, even though they were behind.” Not that we did. Thus, I initiated a timeout. Because of what her teammate didn’t do, Angel (Reese) receives her third (foul) on an inappropriate play.
“You grow, you learn, and you live” Let’s face it, we are rivals. That squad over there is really damn excellent. These circumstances have befallen them. My group hasn’t, and I’m just thinking that if we can at least try to compete a little bit, anything may happen.
Mulkey expressed pride in the environment and her team’s performance, but she also anticipated that it will serve as a teaching moment when it came time for the competition.
Mulkey remarked, “The atmosphere at LSU makes me very proud.” “The things that we have produced here over the past three years. The experience you had tonight is the best there is.
As we did when we traveled to South Carolina the previous year, we will take lessons from it. We shall take note of it. This is only one game. It’s only a single game. On Monday night, the Tigers will play their next game on the road against Mississippi State.
