PFF ranks QB Bo Nix of the Denver Broncos at No. 12 overall.
Will Bo Nix’s name be announced by Roger Goodell when the Denver Broncos choose Bo Nix with their first choice in the NFL Draft?,The Broncos may very well select a quarterback with their No. 12 pick. But there’s no assurance.
Many in Broncos Country like to start a quarterback, Sean Payton, George Paton, and others.Since Peyton Manning’s retirement in 2016, and maybe even more so now that Russell Wilson is set to be released this offseason, Denver has been in dire need of a quarterback.
The good news for that camp is that some are predicting Denver will choose one in the first round, including Pro Football Focus.
In their initial mock draft, PFF forecasts Bo Nix to the Broncos at No. 12. Not to be outdone, Pro Football Focus ridiculed Nix’s loss to the Broncos in the first round. Denver will next choose a defensive lineman, receiver, linebacker, and lastly a cornerback.
This choice won’t cause any division or anything. Still, we have to play as though Wilson won’t be the quarterback for the Broncos next season. I can’t see them moving on from Wilson just to sign a journeyman backup quarterback to be their starter since Wilson’s dead money will still be there.
The Broncos should be proactive in their pursuit of a good quarterback, and Nix should be high on their list as well. Nix has changed as a player during his time at Auburn. This previous season, he achieved a 91.2 PFF passing grade under duress, earning a 92.7 PFF passing grade. If you combine his NFL-caliber throwing power with some additional leg movement, you have a quarterback that is worth selecting in the first round.
His excellent PFF scores are heartening, and his basic numbers have shown a fantastic growth as well.
Throughout his five years of collegiate ball play, he saw a steady growth in both his completion rate and yards per attempt. Nix’s passing percentage soared from 57.6% at Auburn to 71.9% at Oregon in 2022 and then to 77.4% last year. Notably, last year’s 9.6 yards per attempt put him sixth in NCAA football.
Nix was sacked only five times while throwing for a national-high 45 touchdowns to just three interceptions. That low sack total reflects his mobility, and some draft observers find Nix’s ability to make throws off-platform impressive.
Where Nix appears in the Draft rankings and on large boards
Regarding the quarterbacks the Broncos will choose at No. 12 overall, there is good news and terrible news. The bad news is that by the time Denver is on the clock, two or three highly-touted quarterbacks will be gone. They are Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and Caleb Williams. The top three are often listed in that specific order by analysts.
Next are Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy, and Nix, who are all second-tier quarterbacks. Although Nix has ranked fifth ahead of McCarthy and even seventh after Spencer Rattler, most lists have them in that position.Daniels (95.6) leads the field in QBR, followed by Nix (91.1).
