STORY: A former Red Sox slugger will be signed by the Blue Jays
Former Boston slugger Justin Turner is a free agent and there is growing speculation that he will make his decision soon. He could even decide on a new team this week. Turner has been linked to a number of teams during the offseason; a reunion with the Boston Red Sox has been floated as a possibility, but it seems unlikely at this point. Other teams that have been linked to him include the New York Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Toronto Blue Jays.
Though his final destination is still unknown, speculations are starting to circulate, and Toronto appears to be the front-runner to sign him, according to seasoned Major League Baseball insider Peter Gammons.
“If Monday p.m. buzz sending Justin Turner to Toronto is true, it would be a significant addition for the Jays,” Gammons stated.
Turner would greatly benefit Toronto. Turner would be a fantastic choice for the Blue Jays, who are trying to give the middle of their lineup a little extra pop. With the Red Sox, he enjoyed a stellar season in which he hit 23 home runs and recorded a career-high 96 RBIs.
Turner doesn’t appear to be an option anymore, but Boston is also searching for a right-handed bat to add to the center of the lineup. Although Boston has intimated that they may play outfield as well if they obtain aid at designated hitter, he did well last season. Turner played a tremendous season with the Red Sox last year, but in 2024 he’ll probably be playing somewhere else.
