Breaking: Boston Red Sox All-Star Traded to the Cubs
Insiders continue to believe that the Chicago Cubs have a chance to create a big impression before the new season begins, especially with Spring Training quickly approaching. The apparent connection is Cody Bellinger, but neither party is willing to budge on the price.
Matt Chapman’s name is still associated with the Cubs. However, they may put together a trade package to acquire another All-Star player who has become available. The Boston Red Sox are reportedly taking calls on Kenley Jansen and want to trade him this offseason, according to Jon Morosi.
Hector Neris’ contract and the acquisition of Yency Almonte have given Chicago’s bullpen a boost, but as the previous season demonstrated, the team can never have too many relief pitchers. The right-hander has played in Major League Baseball for 14 seasons, although he is best remembered for his three All-Star appearances and league-high save total from his tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017.
Prior to the 2023 season, Jansen inked a two-year deal with the Red Sox. In 44 2/3 innings thrown, he recorded a 3.63 ERA and 42 saves. He was an All-Star with Boston even at the age of thirty-five.
At 36 years old, he appears to be on the trade market, and the Cubs may be interested. Once again, injuries ravaged the bullpen, which was a big part of the reason they missed the playoffs the previous season. Moving into the closer role, Adbert Alzolay stepped up and made 22 saves with an ERA of 2.67, but he is still a rookie.
Alzolay’s development and the team might both greatly benefit from the addition of someone like Jansen. If Chicago decides to pursue the four-time All-Star closer, it will come down to price.
