Marc Marquez’s forecast for Pedro Acosta could frighten competitors in the MotoGP
The emergence of the brilliant teenager Acosta is reminiscent of Marquez’s own arrival in MotoGP.
Acosta, 19, is the Moto2 champion, and his desire to step up forced KTM to reshuffle their pack (and ultimately demote Pol Espargaro) in order to provide him with a Tech3 GASGAS seat.
Acosta promptly went second-fastest on the first day of the Sepang test. In 2013, Moto2 champion Marquez stepped up and won the MotoGP title in his rookie year. He then won six of his first seven MotoGP seasons.
“Quartararo… Pecco, when he arrived in MotoGP at the preseason test, was leading. He was the fastest on one day.
“Pedro was super fast. He crashed, but it’s the way to learn.
“He is attacking. This is a good mentality.
“Always, I will defend that mentality!
“He is fast. He is a super talent.
“Maybe it will take more or less time. But he will fight for a championship sooner or later.” Acosta has reacted to the expectation for his own rookie season: “Pressure is only a word. “If you believe in that, then you have it. “I lived it for the last three years; every day I felt pressure. This is now quite normal.”
