The Athletic: MLB offseason winners include the Diamondbacks
The D-backs are listed by former general manager of the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals Jim Bowden for The Athletic as one of the “winners” of the offseason. Aside from the acquisition of OF Joc Pederson, Arizona has undertaken many noteworthy actions:
– Eduardo Rodriguez, a seasoned left-hand pitcher, was signed to a four-year, $80 million contract.
– On a three-year, $42 million contract, all-star OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will return, and
– Heaping 3B Deal with the Seattle Mariners resulted in the acquisition of Eugenio Suarez.
According to Bowden, the Valley’s baseball club is well-positioned to make a postseason appearance in 2024:
“The reigning National League winners are far from finished with their fantastic offseason. In 2024, they should be in the playoffs once more. Additionally, they’re still hoping to add Jorge Soler or J.D. Martinez as a designated hitter, so keep an eye out.”
The Diamondbacks can concentrate on a right-handed designated hitter as spring training approaches. With the remainder of the team expected to report to camp on February 19 and pitchers and catchers scheduled to report on Wednesday, general manager Mike Hazen and manager Torey Lovullo will have a better look at what they have between the 40-man roster and the non-roster invites.
