Following a loss to Wisconsin, Ohio State sacked its head coach.
Only 13 hours after yesterday night’s game, Ohio State dropped to 4-10 in Big Ten play and fired longstanding head coach Chris Holtmann early today.
Holtmann’s record in seven years at Columbus, Ohio, was 137–86. Counting the 2019–20 season, in which Ohio State would have qualified if the tournament hadn’t been canceled, he qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of his first five years.
The previous two seasons saw a change in the team’s fortunes, with a 16-19 2022–2023 season preceding this year’s poor 14-11 (4–10 Big Ten) record.
It was clear that Holtmann was anxious before yesterday’s game versus the Badgers. However, if someone wishes to begin the story, Greg Gard effectively puts an end to Ohio State’s Chris Holtmann era.
