Former Wisconsin defensive line coach Greg Scruggs has started working at a Big Ten competitor.
The post of defensive line coach Greg Scruggs from Wisconsin was reportedly taken on by Sherrone Moore’s new coaching staff at Michigan, according to reports that first appeared this week.
Neither the Wisconsin nor Michigan football programs have officially confirmed the change.
However, Josh Henschke of Rivals reported the following last night on “X”:
After reporting to Schembechler Hall today, Screggs spoke and went over the footage with Wink Martindals, the defensive coordinator. I hear that the two get along well.
Following Henschke’s announcement on February 13 that Scruggs had “begun calling Michigan DL players to inform them of his arrival,” this has happened.
Even though Michigan hasn’t made the change official yet, it appears like a done deal if you read between the lines.
The Badgers now have a defensive line coach vacancy as a result of the news. Luke Fickell needs to fill it fast as spring practice gets underway and the class of 2025 recruiting race heats up.
The third assistant from Wisconsin to make a lateral move this offseason is Scruggs. Coaches of wide receivers Mike Brown and Colin Hitschler left their jobs at Notre Dame and Alabama, respectively, and Scruggs is currently at Michigan.
Add coaching turnover to the litany of issues Fickell already faces, which includes player turnover up and down his squad from year to year.
