PSL winners & losers: Ashley Du Preez fails Kaizer Chiefs, Miguel Timm disappoints, while Mamelodi Sundowns miss important points once more
WINNER: Stellenbosch
Against Stellenbosch, SuperSport United got out to a fast start, with young Shandre Campbell looking dangerous on the left side. In the twenty-first minute, Bradley Grobler had help from Campbell when he headed in a cross for his eighth goal of the year, giving his team the lead at the break.
Iqraam Rayners, who scored his sixth goal of the season with poise in the area, gave Stellenbosch an equalizer in the second half.
Both teams had chances, but they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw. Bravo to Rayners and the other Stellies players for persevering in obtaining a point away from home.
WINNER: Sekhukhune United
Nevertheless, in the 64th minute, Moses Mthembu pulled one back for the opposition; but, in the 67th minute, Chibuike Ohizu scored a penalty to give Sekhukhune the lead again. Sekhukhune prevailed 3-1 thanks to a goal in stoppage time from Thamsanqa Masiya.
WINNER: Cape Town Spurs
Spurs missed a penalty right before halfway, but they took the lead back thanks to a calculated substitute made by coach Ernst Middendorp, who brought in Ashley Cupido. Cupido made an immediate impression by scoring a brace with Luvuyo Phewa’s outstanding assist. Spurs now have seven points after this victory, their second of the season.
WINNER: TS Galaxy
Samir Nurkovic, a substitute, scored in the second half to give Galaxy a 3-1 victory. After this victory, Galaxy moved up to seventh position in the rankings with 24 points, while Arrows are now in ninth place with 23 points.
LOSER: Moroka Swallows
Mokibelo Ramabu, who took advantage of goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi’s error in failing to hold onto a long-range strike from Oswin Appollis, helped Rise and Shine secure the victory. In the 58th minute, Ramabu scored off the rebound as a result of this.
LOSER: Cape Town City
LOSER: Mamelodi Sundowns
Even though Marcelo Allende’s goal in the 76th minute gave them the lead, they gave up a penalty to Pirates, who scored it through Tapelo Xoki, forcing a 1-1 tie. Due to this result, Sundowns were unable to increase their lead at the top of the league and have now lost their past three games.
After preventing goalkeeper Ronwen Williams from clearing the ball, the midfield player was given a second yellow card and had to leave the game early in the 55th minute.
LOSER: Kaizer Chiefs
Ashley du Preez had the biggest chance of the match in the twelfth minute after receiving a lofted pass that gave him plenty of time to choose where to put the ball. But Hugo Nyame, the man of the match, was unbeatable as the speedy forward missed the mark with his strike.
