Prospect Tiedemann of the Blue Jays will start Saturday’s spring training opener.
21-year-old Tiedemann was selected by the Blue Jays in the third round of the 2021 draft and has since emerged as Toronto’s most highly anticipated prospect. He played double-A New Hampshire for the bulk of the 2023 season, when he finished with a 5.06 ERA and 32 innings pitched with 58 strikeouts.
Tiedemann is ranked first overall for the Blue Jays and 29th overall in the MLB’s top prospect rankings. The Long Beach, California native has impressed Schneider and pitching coach Pete Walker during spring training, earning high praise.
“He has really good momentum coming into this camp, he’s obviously in tremendous shape,” Schneider stated. “All we want to do is watch him pitch. We just want to see him and properly develop him.
“I think his work is excellent. We’re curious to see how it performs this spring against hitters.”
Schneider also mentioned that Sunday’s pitchers are Mitch White and Bowden Francis.
On Saturday at 1:07 p.m. ET / 10:07 a.m. PT, you can watch Tiedemann and the Blue Jays play their first spring training game on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+, or you can tune in live on Sportsnet 590 The Fan.
