Former Ole Miss DE Named Potential Sleeper in 2024 NFL Draft; Ole Miss Baseball Announces Weekend Series Uniforms Against Morehead State
The Ole Miss Rebels added more talent than they lost this offseason, but defensive end Cedric Johnson is unquestionably the biggest loss. After leading Ole Miss’ defense to a Peach Bowl triumph, the senior announced his intention to enter the 2024 NFL Draft. He concluded his four-year career as a Rebel with 111 total tackles, 22 tackles for losses, two forced fumbles, 19 sacks, and four pass breakups.
“One of the early momentum-makers at the combine, Cedric Johnson placed the best among his group of defensive linemen with an official time of 4.63 in the 40-yard dash,” 247Sports stated. Later, Johnson displayed a 1.61 10-yard split, a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump, and—possibly the most impressive—a 38-inch vertical jump that ranked in the top five among defensive linemen and linebackers.
Participating in the 2024 NFL Combine last week, the Chucky Mullins Award recipient captured attention with an incredible feat of athleticism for a man of Johnson’s stature (6-3, 265 pounds). Due to his performance, Johnson’s draft value ended up rising. On Thursday, 247Sports released a list of ten late-round players who might start for the NFL, and the former Rebel was one of them.
For the majority of the scouting day, Johnson received the highest grade. Johnson, who stands 6-3 and weighs 265 pounds, is nimble for his stature and finished his Ole Miss career with 40 tackles.”
Johnson is presently projected by the publication to be chosen in the seventh round, but if he keeps up his stellar pre-draft performance, he very well may go earlier. Johnson’s ability to play consistently for four years in the Southeastern Conference should suggest that he has the skills and athleticism to eventually establish himself as a starter in the NFL, regardless of whether he is more of a project or an immediate impact player.
