Agpalsa had been at Northern Illinois for the previous five seasons prior to the announcement in February of his move to Kansas. Agpalsa formerly worked under head coach Lance Leipold at UW-Whitewater in 2012–13 and Buffalo in 2014–18. Scott Fuchs, who was hired by the Tennessee Titans to serve as their assistant offensive line coach, is replaced by Agpalsa.
“All three of my children have been born,” Agpalsa remarked. We travel all the way back to Buffalo from Whitewater. Our friendship and familial ties extend much beyond our work relationship.”
Leipold and Agpalsa’s close relationship and this link made the decision to visit Kansas simple. Agpalsa is looking forward to working with this incoming offensive line in the future season.
“My interactions with them have been fantastic, I am excited,” Agpalsa stated. “They gained a lot of confidence from what they’ve accomplished here over the last two years.” Regarding McDonald, he took over for Jordan Peterson, who left Kansas to take up the same position at Texas A&M.
McDonald has four years of coaching experience at Iowa State, and he most recently served as the defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2021 to 2023. Over the past few seasons, McDonald has watched Kansas closely and has been pleased with the players’ effort.
McDonald stated, “You want to be around great people—people who love football, who love the young men who play the game, and who want to see them succeed both on and off the field.” McDonald believes that by fostering the boys’ growth and allowing them to watch a lot of movies, the lads will perform better.
When it’s time for those men to take the field and play, we will get them where they need to be, McDonald said.
The Jayhawks, who surprised many by going undefeated and winning a bowl game the previous season, will try to capitalize on their success this year with a few new players bringing fresh ideas to the team. They play their first game of the 2024 season on August 29 against Lindenwood at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
