The Vikings are reportedly eyeing J.J. McCarthy in the NFL draft.
According to NFL officials with whom ESPN’s Matt Miller spoke, the Vikings plan to pursue a trade up for the Michigan quarterback with vigor.
“On Friday, the Vikings did not send Adofo-Mensah or coach Kevin O’Connell to the Michigan pro day; but, Josh McCown, the quarterbacks coach, was positioned directly behind McCarthy for his 25-minute throwing session.
Speaking with NFL personnel this week while traveling for pro days, the consensus is that the Vikings will aggressively move up to the No. 4 or No. 5 pick in order to acquire the Michigan quarterback.
This week, I spoke with a general manager who told me that McCarthy is currently a top-six pick. Who will move up to acquire him?”
The Vikings are reportedly targeting a quarterback, although it’s unclear exactly which one they have in mind. McCarthy is the lean right now, and that makes sense. Though it doesn’t appear likely that Washington or New England will trade down just yet, the option is still there.
Many opinions regarding the Vikings’ draft plans may surface over the course of the next five weeks, but selecting a quarterback will be of utmost importance.
