The Dallas Cowboys have taken an unexpected stand regarding the renewal of Dak Prescott’s contract.
Star quarterback Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys is still waiting on a contract extension, and it doesn’t appear like he will get one anytime soon.
Dak Prescott has been the main man in Arlington for over ten years. He has established himself as the Dallas Cowboys’ definitive quarterback ever since taking over for the ailing Tony Romo.
Given his current salary hit, the free-agent market, and the Cowboys’ draft position, it seems certain that they would sign him to a significant deal extension. So much so that they had paid him the biggest salary of any player in NFL history.
Still, no updates have been provided regarding this circumstance as the days pass. Additionally, club owner Jerry Jones essentially informed everyone that this is unlikely to change very soon.
The Cowboys won’t rush into giving Dak Prescott a longer contract.
Jones said to Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Clarence Hill, “He is willing to do everything he can to help us win.”We are therefore in this position. For this year, we are fully committed to our contract. As we proceed, it is evident to us how inclusive our thinking is of all people, including Dak. We’ll see what comes of it. I have nothing noteworthy to share for today.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Prescott is now expected to play the upcoming season with his existing contract. Nick Harris, a staff writer for the Cowboys, added that a deal is not urgently needed to be reached.
Dak Prescott and the Cowboys have discussed extensions, according to the team, but it’s ‘not a rushed position for either at this moment.’Although there is now no rush, the possibility of a deal being reached this offseason or in 2024 still exists, Harris noted.
It’s now thought by some that the Cowboys are applying pressure to Prescott to finish the job by 2024. They might decide to get rid of him as well, but it might not be simple given that he has a contract that expires in 2026. That could backfire.
