Fijian Drua scrumhalf Lomani faced a six-week ban for punching a rival Super Rugby star in the head.
Drua was behind 34–20 at the half when Lomani was given a red card by the on-field referee. Rebels prevailed 41–20. Following a referral, he was found guilty on Wednesday of “deliberate physical abuse of striking with an elbow to the back of the victim player’s head and causing injury” by the Super Rugby foul play review committee.
After clearing out of a ruck, it was discovered that Canham “was in an extremely vulnerable position with limited ability, if any, to defend himself.” Because Lomani entered an early guilty plea, he was awarded a shorter ban, even though the entry-level penalty for the violation is 10 weeks.
He won’t be able to play until Drua’s final regular season game against the Rebels in Lautoka, Fiji. Due to an attempted head butt, Drua prop Jone Koroiduadua has been suspended for two weeks, but just for one game. This weekend is a bye for the Drua.
