FRISCO: Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, may not have intended for it, but when he stated that the team will evaluate Mike McCarthy’s job security week by week following the regular season, he helped fuel rumors.
For at least one more season, make that an annual basis.
On Wednesday night, Jones let McCarthy know that he would be coming back for a fifth season. McCarthy signed a five-year contract to become the Cowboys head coach, and he will soon be entering his final season.
Jones made the following announcement about his choice to keep McCarthy on staff:
“I think this team is very close and capable of reaching our ultimate goals, and having Mike McCarthy as our head coach will be the best move forward for us,” the player said. Maintaining the team’s development under Mike’s direction as our head coach has many advantages. In particular, Mike’s style of team leadership has resulted in numerous levels of success this season for both our team as a whole and individual players.
