Baseball pitching rotations for Ole Miss and Mississippi State released for rivalry series
Regarding Ole Miss, Riley Maddox will start for the Rebels (18-15, 3-9 SEC), who will then be led by Liam Doyle and Mason Nichols. MSU’s Friday night starter to begin the season was Nate Dohm (21-12, 6-6). But coach Chris Lemonis’s rotation was upset by an injury sustained in a March 8 victory over Evansville, and one slot has remained undecided every weekend since.
In the rubber match on Sunday versus Georgia, Dohm made a comeback, but he was taken out after just 12 deliveries.Following the game, Lemonis noted, “It wasn’t anything major.” “He just didn’t feel comfortable, and I just wasn’t going to mess with it.”
Chris Lemonis, the baseball coach at Mississippi State, converses with an official on Thursday, April 27, 2023, during the NCAA baseball game against Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Stephen has earned the top slot in MSU’s rotation after making three starts since his bad performance against LSU to start SEC play. Stephen’s run total against Texas A&M, Florida, and Georgia is just three earned runs.
This season, Cijntje, the ambidextrous pitcher for Mississippi State, has improved his ERA from 8.10 as a rookie to 3.45. He pitched 5⅔ innings in his one and only career start against Ole Miss, giving up just one run in the victory. Despite the Rebels’ recent sweep of Arkansas, head coach Mike Bianco plans to continue with his starting lineup.
The SEC’s second-worst ERA belongs to Ole Miss. Maddox gave up four runs in five innings at Arkansas on March 29, following his one run in five and a half innings against Kentucky on March 29.
Doyle’s SEC schedule was off to a strong start. In eleven⅓ innings against South Carolina and Tennessee, he gave up six earned runs. Nevertheless, in six innings against Kentucky and Arkansas, he has given up 11 earned runs.
Nichols made his 12th appearance of the season—his first start—against Arkansas. His longest outing since he pitched 4⅓ innings at Hawaii on February 16 was 3⅔ innings, where he gave up one run.
