At Augusta National, the battle for the green jacket begins with reigning champion Jon Rahm.
The world’s best golfers will be returning to Augusta for the first men’s major of the year, the Masters. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the tournament favorite, while Jon Rahm, the defending champion, will try to become just the fourth player to win back-to-back titles. Rory McIlroy will continue to pursue his first Masters title and career slam.
In 2022, Scheffler won the Masters, adding his name to the esteemed group of golf legends who have worn the green jacket. However, the Masters has also produced a fair number of improbable champions, who, should they claim victory, are assured lifelong entry into the competition.
Although the exact prize money for the 2024 competition has not yet been decided, it is expected to remain unchanged from the $18 million purse won last year. Of total, $3.24 million went to Jon Rahm, the winner of the Masters, for first place.
