Zach Owens of Clemson moves to Colorado
Working in the trenches, the 6-foot-6, 380-pound beast gained the moniker “Flapjack”. He was a four-star original recruit from Eagles Landing Christian Academy, south of Atlanta, who was signed by Dabo Swinney’s Tigers the previous season. The same high school where Brandon Hood and Colton, recent CU commitments, attended. Micah Welch, the running back for the Buffs, is also reunited with his childhood group in the Peachtree State.
Owens was a top 20 offensive lineman and a unanimous top 300 national prospect. He has experience playing every position on the line and is versatile coming to CU. It had a significant role in his selection to the 2023 All-American Bowl.
“247Sports’ Gabe Brooks wrote about Owens, citing him as one of the top offensive line prospects in the 2023 recruiting cycle with the potential to establish himself as a multi-year starter at the high-major level. “Very high-floor prospect with the physical traits that could lead to a ceiling in the top half of the NFL Draft.”
Colorado has signed 34 players this year via the transfer site, including Owens. With the window still open until April 30th, they are now back to a total of negative two. Redshirting allowed Owens to play in two Clemson games while maintaining his eligibility. Starting this season, he will have four years remaining on his contract.
