All-Stars Tanner Scott and Jazz Chisholm Jr. are reportedly expected to be traded by the Miami Marlins.
More stars may be leaving town now that they have the poorest record in the National League three weeks before the MLB Trade Deadline in early July. A few Marlins players are thought to be available for trade, according to a Monday morning report from Craig Mish of The Miami Herald. The two most prominent ones are left-handed reliever Tanner Scott and outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., both 26 years old.
Scott’s contract is about to expire, and he will turn thirty on July 22. 13 of his 15 save chances have been converted, and he is 6-5 with a 1.42 ERA, 1.079 WHIP, 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings, and 2.6 WAR through 37 appearances.
The Marlins are 25-12 when Scott takes the mound as opposed to 7-46 when he is not in the lineup. On Sunday, the southpaw was selected the lone All-Star for Miami. Mish reports that the Marlins have received inquiries from “about a dozen” teams regarding Scott, who is “likely to be traded soon.”
Regarding Chisholm, it has been two years since he made an appearance as an All-Star. Despite his frequent injuries, the star has participated in 87 of Miami’s 90 games this season, allaying some worries about his availability.
With 10 home runs, 40 RBI, 17 stolen bases, a.733 OPS, and 0.9 WAR, Chisholm is batting.255 right now. Chisholm has played second, short, and center field throughout his 162 games in the major leagues. He is a.248 hitter with 26 home runs, 81 RBI, 32 stolen bases, a.751 OPS, and 2.8 WAR.
“A growing belief” exists, according to Mish, that Chisholm will be traded this summer. This winter will mark the start of his second offseason of arbitration eligibility, delaying his entry into free agency until 2027.According to Mish, the Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Kansas City Royals are the front-runners to assemble a package for Chisholm.
Mish also named several Marlins who could be dealt this month, including first baseman Josh Bell and relievers Declan Cronin and Calvin Faucher. As for the injured star Jesús Luzardo, outfielders Bryan De La Cruz, Jesús Sánchez, reliever Andrew Nardi, and others are anticipated to remain in their positions.
On July 30 at 6 p.m. ET, 2024, the MLB Trade Deadline will take place. The Marlins may act quickly if they choose to be sellers.
