The shocking Kyle McCord decision is brutally honest about by the former Ohio State head coach.
In an interview with On3’s Tim May, Meyer expressed his shock at the McCord news, saying he was just astounded. “That was illogical,” Meyer remarked. “I’m still having trouble understanding it. It just doesn’t add up when I try to take a position with Kyle or even Ohio State.
McCord completed 66 percent of his passes for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions in his debut season as the starting quarterback. Although he wasn’t flawless, his play was sufficient to help Ohio State win 11 games and the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
Meyer believed that McCord and Ohio State were a good fit and that the future looked bright, but the quarterback obviously had other ideas.
“I’m attempting to make it work because I want to be sympathetic and be able to acknowledge my understanding.” Ohio State is the best place for Kyle to be. Unless he is assured a starting position, that place does not exist, Meyer stated. But once more, I disagree that’s the ideal location. I believe that steel sharpens steel and iron sharpens iron. The best thing a person can do is compete to the hilt, improve, and play to the best of their abilities.
Although Meyer acknowledged that he might have some prejudices, he insisted that he’s “not ripping” McCord for the choice, saying that the former coach genuinely thinks the Buckeyes were the right fit for him.
Nebraska has already met with the 21-year-old, and in the upcoming weeks, there should be more interest. However, Meyer believes that Ohio State is the best choice and the best fit.
