The Braves have added Erick Abreu, Tom Goodwin, and Matt Tuiasosopo to their coaching staff. The Braves announced the hiring of Eric Young Sr., Drew French, and Ron Washington as their new head coaches.
Three new coaching hires were announced by the Atlanta Braves on Monday. The team’s new third base coach is Matt Tuiasosopo. Erick Abreu will assume the role of the team’s new bullpen coach, while Tom Goodwin will take over as first base coach. Walt Weiss, the bench coach, will assume the role of infield instructor for the team.
Tuiasosopo, who managed Gwinnett for the previous three seasons, will help Weiss with infield responsibilities. Ron Washington, who departed this offseason to assume management of the Los Angeles Angels, was replaced by him.
Goodwin was a traveling instructor in the Braves system for the previous two seasons. Prior to that, he was the first base coach for the Boston Red Sox from 2018 to 21 and the New York Mets from 2012 to 17. He took over for Eric Young Sr., who left to work for the Angels and join Washington’s staff.
Abreu joins from the Houston Astros organization, where he spent the previous three seasons as the Triple A pitching coach. He is taking over for the late Drew French, who left to take a position as the Baltimore Orioles’ pitching coach.
