Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports:
Yoshinobu Yamamoto will meet with the Red Sox in the coming days after previously meeting with the Yankees, Mets, and Giants, according to a source. According to sources, he will probably meet with two or three more teams, including the Blue Jays.
Yoshinobu is expected to demand a salary that is at least $250 million, if not more than $300 million. However, it’s obvious that the Jays have money to spend if they were considering Ohtani.
Undoubtedly, the 25-year-old Japanese sensation is a unicorn. He doesn’t have much wear and tear on his arm, and he’s that young and accomplished. More information on Yamamoto was provided in a February 2023 MLB Trade Rumors article:
Sherman spoke with scouts who gushed about Yamamoto’s potential in the major leagues, highlighting his 70-grade heater, his quick delivery to the plate, his “plus-plus” curveball, his ability to field his position athletically, and more.
This season, he pitched to a pitiful 1.16 ERA while going 17-6 in the Nippon Professional Baseball League. After 171.0 innings pitched, he struck out 176 batters. It was the same team that Ichiro Suzuki played for, the Orix Buffaloes, that he was pitching for.
Should the Blue Jays acquire Yamamoto, they would team him up with the already excellent group of Jose Berrios, Chris Bassitt, Kevin Gausman, and Yusei Kikuchi. Additionally, Alek Manoah remains employed by the company.
