Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman make fun of the Indianapolis Colts for the Deflate-Gate controversy.
This “controversy” surrounding PSI levels in footballs led to stories on national television, permeated the American legal system, and encouraged some earnestly claiming to be sports analysts to make statements such as “Tom Brady is only good because of his low PSI footballs.”
After the commotion began, Brady went on to win four Super Bowls, five conference titles, and the league MVP award. He also set records for every significant passing statistic that the NFL tracks, all between the ages of 37 and 43.It was quite a bit. Additionally, two men who were directly involved Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman talked a little bit about those times on Edelman’s podcast, “Games With Names.” The two decided to talk about the Patriots vs. Colts regular-season game in Indianapolis, which became known as “The Jonas Gray Game.” Additionally, it was the night that Sergio Brown was famously thrown out of the club by Gronkowski.
Gronkowski thinks that night’s events set the stage for the Colts to accuse the Patriots of using deflated balls in the playoffs a few months later. The Patriots won that game 42-20.
“I swear, this game was the cause of the Deflate-Gate. “They had to come up with some phony explanation for why they were consistently losing to us year after year,” Gronkowsi remarked. They were not only losing to us, either. Every single time we played them, we were stomping that ass.”
Gronkowski was told by Edelman that this theory could work because the timeline lined up. “Dude, that was really dumb. Every game we were whooping ’em so bad, I’m telling you, they just came up with that,” Gronkowski remarked. With a mocking tone, Edelman said, “Hey guys, this ball’s a little flat.” “Are you kidding me?” Gronkowski uttered those words in his own derisive tones. “We ran the ball for 300 yards.”
“Deflate-Gate,” as it was eventually dubbed, really got going in the first half of the AFC Championship Game when D’Qwell Jackson picked off a pass from Tom Brady. After losing to the Patriots the week prior in a game where head coach John Harbaugh was unable to keep up with Bill Belichick, the Colts, who had been given a hot tip by the Ravens, claimed that football felt underinflated. This led to a botched test of footballs at halftime and even a threat from NFL executive Mike Kensil.
After that, the story took off, mostly due to some false reporting and an NFL-funded “investigation. “It was a lot, man. And Gronkowski claimed that it was all the result of the residual hurt from The Jonas Gray
