Blue Jays Mentioned As Top Landing Spot For Rumored Yankees Target: Is it possible for the Blue Jays to sign the former MVP in free agency this offseason?
With big plans for the upcoming season, the Toronto Blue Jays headed into the offseason. Toronto even made an attempt to be among the top suitors for two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. Despite this, the Blue Jays were ultimately defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Currently, Toronto is seeking for fresh approaches to enhance the team and has been associated with Cody Bellinger, a reported Yankees target. Will Leitch of MLB.com even predicted that Bellinger would land best with the Blue Jays.
“Bringing in the next-best free agent hitter would be a great way to allay any residual disappointment regarding (Shohei Ohtani). Bellinger is the left-handed bat this lineup needs to go with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, George Springer, and he won’t cost the Jays $700 million,” Leitch stated. Bellinger has the ability to play left field or center and move Daulton Varsho to left; either position would be a significant improvement on both the offensive and defensive sides.
(Kevin Kiermaier’s status as a free agent makes Toronto’s third outfield spot uncertain.) The same arguments for adding Bellinger also apply to Ohtani, and it would be the boost this team appears to need at the moment.”
Over the past few months, New York was thought to be the front-runner to sign Bellinger, but it doesn’t seem to be interested now that Trent Grisham, Juan Soto, and Alex Verdugo have all signed. Despite this, Bellinger is still thought to have a high landing place in the Yankees.
Toronto was strong enough the previous year. The American League East would only become more competitive if the Blue Jays were able to sign Bellinger this offseason.
