Man City ace Jack Grealish denies ‘disrespectful’ claims from furious Fluminense star
Following Friday’s Club World Cup final triumph, Jack Grealish of Manchester City was challenged by an enraged Felipe Melo of Fluminense.
Manchester City’s Jack Grealish has responded to Fluminense’s Felipe Melo, who called his alleged on-pitch antics “disrespectful.”
City easily won, however Grealish came under fire for allegedly calling out “olรฉ” to Melo during the game, as the Premier League team dominated possession in the second half and appeared to be making fun of a Brazilian team that was seen as being below par in Jeddah.
At the full-time whistle, Melo got into an argument with Kyle Walker, Grealish’s teammate, over some remarks made by City’s players. Melo is a 40-year-old former Juventus and Inter Milan enforcer.
“I’ve seen on social media idiots saying that I started a mess,” Melo responded to inquiries about the fight from Brazilian media. “Right after the fools claimed that my goalโwhich Gremio scored in their Brazilian league matchโstarted the whole fiasco. I approached the player who was having fun with their supporters during the Gremio game with composure. And in the end, they made a mess. Furthermore, I wanted no mess.
“I will never allow Grealish to treat the Fluminense institution disrespectfully, as he did today… He was yelling “olรฉ” when the game was about to conclude. The fans may yell “olรฉ”; this is for them. An athlete cannot treat the institution disrespectfully while competing. For those fools who identify as journalists who have already said that I caused chaos, let me clarify that I went to support Matheus Martinelli, who was being cornered by this athlete, not to cause any misunderstanding. I would repeat the process. I’m a fighter.
But soon after Melo’s quotes surfaced, Grealish rushed to social media to assert that his remarks were false. “I didn’t say ole once,” he claimed.
