Following West Ham’s defeat, Arsenal’s manager orders the team to get ready for the Fulham match.
In spite of his displeasure, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta asked his team to gather themselves ahead of another impending London derby following their 2-0 loss to West Ham United.
The Spanish player told BBC Match of the Day following the match:
“Today we feel incredibly let down because we want to be at the top. We ruled the game with such supremacy. Our position is excellent. Tonight has been a letdown. For a crucial match against Fulham, we must prepare ourselves.”
Fulham currently sits 13th in the standings halfway through the season with 21 points from 19 games. Luton Town, who are in 18th position, are only six points behind them with a game remaining.
Due to the Cottagers’ current three-game league losing streak, Arsenal will be confident in their ability to defeat them on December 31 at Craven Cottage. Moreover, since August 2008, the Gunners have only dropped a single game against Fulham in all competitions.
“That is something that the entire team must do.” In light of Arsenal’s loss to West Ham, captain Martin Odegaard outlines the areas in which the team needs to improve.
Following Thursday’s (December 28) 2-0 league loss to West Ham United at the Emirates, Martin Odegaard has called on Arsenal to play more clinically in front of goal.
Of the thirty attempts made, eight were on target for the Gunners, while three of the six attempts made by West Ham were successful. Crucially, even though they only had 25% of the ball for the whole game, the Hammers made the most of their opportunities and possession, scoring twice.
Before Konstantinos Mavropanos scored against his former team to increase the lead ten minutes after the break, Tomas Soucek opened the goal in the thirteenth minute under dubious circumstances. With three shots and six chances to score against the Hammers, Odegaard said the following following the match (via Express):
It’s that kind of evening. We were inadequate in the box despite having numerous opportunities. It is up to the entire team to help us reach the goal, which requires improvement.”
Arsenal lost the league title, and they were unable to take it back. Liverpool has led the competition after 19 games with 42 points, including their 2-0 victory against Burnley on Boxing Day (December 26).
Aston Villa is trailed by one point by the Gunners, who are in second place with 40 points. With four more points than fourth-place Manchester City who still have a game in hand West Ham moved up to sixth position in the standings following the victory, with 33 point.
