Joey Votto said of his boyhood portrait, “It’s a dream,” following his signing with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Toronto team invited Votto to spring training this year and said on Saturday that they had reached an agreement on a minor league contract. The agreement’s conditions were kept a secret.
Votto celebrated the news the next day by posting a picture of himself as an infant on Instagram. He is seen in the picture sporting a bib with the team’s insignia underneath and the words “I’m a little Blue Jay” splayed over the front.
The 40-year-old proceeded to reiterate his lifelong devotion to the Jays by highlighting significant occasions from the team’s history, such as the road victory over the Atlanta Braves that led to the 1992 World Series Championship and the subsequent series victory that followed Joe Carter’s walk-off home run against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Votto remarked, “Those were the most thrilling times of my childhood.” “That I have the chance to return and could eventually join a team that is aiming for a championship is a dream,” the player said.
