Alabama Football: Three Significant Additions to the Crimson Tide
At quarterback Jalen Milroe, the most crucial position on the field, they do, however, bring back starting experience. Additionally, Alabama has returning starters at linebacker (1), safety (1), offensive line (3), defensive line (2), and tight end (1). With this returning production from the team from the previous season, the Crimson Tide is a miserable 115th out of 134 FBS teams.
Kalen DeBoer, the new head coach, searched the transfer site for gifted players to add depth and fill needed spots. Three of those transfers, which he was successful in acquiring, are listed below and will have an effect on the Crimson Tide come fall.
LT Overton, a defensive lineman ranked sixth in the 2022 recruiting class and a former 5-star prospect, has the ability to cause havoc for the Crimson Tide. Overton had 17 tackles and three quarterback pressures in the previous campaign. Overton recorded 31 stops, three sacks, three tackles for loss, and five quarterback pressures in 2022.
Overton was a prep football sensation who racked up 229 tackles, 96.5 tackles for loss, and 48 sacks in three seasons. When everything is said and done, Overton might end up as a starter because he adds depth to a defensive line that will be a strength for this club.
Domani Jackson played in 11 games in 2023 and finished with 33 tackles and three pass breakups. Jackson was the top player in California and among the top 15 players nationwide as a former 5-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class.
In addition to having outstanding coverage abilities and exceptional speed to run stride for stride with receivers, Jackson also fills a need in a secondary that was decimated by players leaving and NFL Draft declarations.
Parker Brailsford, who played center and right guard for the Huskies last season, battled out bigger, taller players to start all 15 games for the team. Brailsford can play various positions. Brailsford fights opponents on his blocks until the play is blown away since he is a very strong player for his height.
Brailsford was a member of the Huskies offensive line, which was recognized as the best offensive line in college football in 2023 and earned the Joe Moore Award. He was also selected to the first team of the Freshman All-American team and the second team of the PAC 12. With just three offensive line starters returning for the Crimson Tide, Brailsford addresses a vital need for the team by moving to Tuscaloosa, following his old head coach.
Throughout 16 of Saban’s 17 seasons as head coach in Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide won 10 or more games, and each season they added a new class of gifted 5-star recruits. Winning was expected, and Saban gave the impression that it was simple. I can’t recall an Alabama squad under Nick Saban’s coaching losing this much skill to attrition in a single off-season.
At every coaching position he has held, DeBoer has been successful. This is unquestionably a very different Alabama football program these days. Can the Crimson Tide win 10 or more games in a season? There will be pressure on DeBoer to carry on his predecessor’s winning ways—a pressure to succeed that hasn’t been felt in Tuscaloosa in nearly two decades.
