Andrews of WBB is one of the top 10 contenders for the Lieberman Award.
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Monday that Sarah Andrews of Baylor women’s basketball has been chosen as one of the top 10 finalists for the 2024 Nancy Lieberman Award.
The award, which has been given for 25 years, honors the best point guard in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball. Candidates must possess the floor leadership, playmaking, and ball-handling abilities of Class of 1996 Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman in order to be nominated for this coveted honor.
Andrews has started every one of the Bears’ 18 games this season, earning a spot on three preseason watch lists, including the Nancy Lieberman Award. With 209 made 3-pointers, the senior guard is second all-time in BU women’s basketball history and scored more than 1,000 points in her career in the season opener. On December 18, she was named the ESPN National Player of the Week. A week later, she was voted the MVP of the West Palm Beach Classic. In Baylor’s victory over UCF on January 20, Andrews recorded her second career double-double with an 11-point, 10-assist performance. This made her the first Bear to do it since Nov. 25, 2022.
This season, the Irving, Texas, native has scored in double figures 13 times and is averaging 12.2 points per contest. In addition to ranking second on the team in assists with 65, Andrews has made 45 of the team’s best 3-pointers. Furthermore, Andrews is making a team-best 81.8% of his free throws from the line.
Beginning on Friday, January 26 on hoophallawards.com, fans can show their support for their preferred players in the remaining rounds by taking part in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies. During the finalist selection process, one committee vote will be counted from the fan vote. The Hall of Fame selection committee and Lieberman will be presented with five candidates in March. Elite women’s college basketball players, media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers make up the Nancy Lieberman Award Selection Committee.
