Baselala seizes any chance to study under the greatest
As one of the team’s younger players, Baselala expressed his gratitude to the more seasoned players—Frank Lomani, Simione Kuruvoli, and Peni Matawalu, among others—for their advice in an interview with fijivillage News. The 19-year-old claims he is learning everything he can from the more experienced players.
He claims that this year, his only goals are to get better at what he does and to secure a spot in the Flying Fijians squad for the June and July tests as well as the Fiji under-20 team. The man from Solotavui, Kadavu was seen playing for Suva Grammar School at the Vodafone Super Deans in 2022, and he was later nominated for the Fijian Drua development squad last year.
After being called up into the main team, he made his Super Rugby Pacific debut against the Melbourne Rebels last year. Later on, he was selected for the Fiji under-20 team that competed in the Junior World Championship held in South Africa the previous year.
This Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Melbourne, the Drua will play their final preseason game against the Melbourne Rebels. They will play their first Super Rugby Pacific match of the year against the Blues next Saturday in Auckland at 3:35 p.m.
