New York Mets’ Waiver Claim Causes Toronto Blue Jays to Lose Depth Catcher.
As of Friday, the Seattle Mariners’ Cooper Hummel and the Toronto Blue Jays’ Tyler Heineman were both claimed off waivers by the New York Mets. Cooper Hummel, an outfielder and catcher, was also claimed by the Mets on Friday from the Seattle Mariners.
Heineman spent four seasons in the major leagues, playing for the Blue Jays, Giants, Marlins, and Pirates. He has 15 RBI, one home run, and a lifetime batting average of.218. In 19 games with Toronto in 2023, he recorded three RBI and a.432 on-base percentage.
Although he wasn’t officially on waivers, he was probably disposable because the Blue Jays already have Alejandro Kirk and Danny Jansen to handle catching duties.
