15 cops are in jail for killing someone at a dinner party.
On suspicion of misconduct, four police officers received two-year sentences, while the remaining eleven received sixteen-month sentences. There were three suspended sentences. Another was acquitted of the accusation.
On September 6, 2023, everyone was present for a dinner held at Praween Chankhlai’s home in the Muang district of the province of Nakhon Pathom. Praween, referred to as Kamman Nok in the community, was a powerful tambon head in the region.
A gunman entered the dinner party and killed highway policeman Pol Maj Sivakorn Saibua in full front of the other guests, capping the fatal dinner party. Senior police officers attended the event in large numbers, but they did nothing to apprehend or stop the murderer.
After escaping to the province of Kanchanaburi, the gunman was shot and killed by police. He was Praween’s close associate. The dispute over a promotion was the reason for the murder.
After turning himself in, Praween was given a two-year prison sentence and is currently being held at Bangkok Remand Prison.
All seven of the citizens were convicted of aiding and abetting the police defendants in their neglect of their official duties during the lethal lunch. The more serious accusation against Praween is that he was the mastermind behind Pol Maj Sivakorn’s murder. The day following the shooting, he surrendered himself in.
