David Puig of LIV Golf wins the Asian Tour, earning him a spot in the 2024 Open Championship.
The first Open Qualifying Series competition of 2024 was the Malaysian Open. Taking place from March 7–10, 2024, is the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the PGA Tour. The series has already produced six qualified players.
Late in 2023, at the Joburg Open, Dean Burmester, Darren Fichardt, and Dan Bradbury earned their berths; at the ISPS Handa Australian Open, Joaquin Niemann, Rikuya Hoshino, and Adam Scott got theirs.
It’s a strange but wonderful feeling. The cut was barely overlooked. After the second round, Puig, who was toying with the cutline, remarked, “I was kind of playing good, but I kind of messed up.”
“The weekend was very crazy, and we really did well in the second round. It was incredible that there were 18 birdies in 36 holes with no bogeys.
He went on, “And getting that open spot is really cool; that’s why I came here.” 2nd place Puig will be joined at the Open by Jeunghun Wang and Denwit Boriboonsub, who tied for third place with John Catlin but prevailed in the playoff round due to his superior ranking in the Official World Golf Ranking.
While Wang will make his third start following cuts in 2016 and 2017, Puig and Boriboonsub will be making their Open debuts.
