The famous Big Ten head coach departs to take an offer as offensive coordinator at Ohio State.
This action is the result of numerous dominoes falling throughout the offseason. First, Bill O’Brien, the offensive coordinator for the Patriots and a former head coach of Penn State and the Texans, left the NFL to take a position as the offensive coordinator at Ohio State.
Then, unexpectedly, head coach Jeff Hafley of Boston College entered the NFL to take the position of defensive coordinator for the unfilled Green Bay Packers. In the end, O’Brien left Ohio State to take a position at Boston College.
As a result, Ohio State’s offensive coordinator was absent for spring practice. Let’s introduce Kelly, who was obviously in hot water by 2024 after nearly losing her job at UCLA the previous year. Before accepting this position—possibly the greatest coordinator position in the nation—he had dabbled in a number of NFL coordinator positions.
Kelly is a skilled coach who enjoyed great success at Oregon from 2009 to 2012, a turbulent tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013 to 2015, a season with the 49ers in San Francisco, and a strong tenure at UCLA from 2018 to 2023.
Ryan Day, the head coach of Ohio State, made an intriguing hire considering that he is apparently now stepping back from calling the offensive side of the ball. Day needs a big splash, particularly in light of Michigan’s recent National Championship and three consecutive conference titles.
