NHL Winter Classic will take place in Chicago Cubs Stadium in 2025
The NHL regular season’s most watched regular-season game since its creation in 2008 is the Winter Classic.
In his debut early in the season, Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks, a rookie phenom, outscored the Seattle Kraken vs. Las Vegas Golden Knights game.
In light of this, Ben Pope of The Chicago Sun Times reports that the NHL wants to cash in on the celebrity and plans to do so at Wrigley Field, home of the Cubs.
Despite being played there twice this season, Wrigley is the second venue to host the Winter Classic. Chicago was given the second portion during the Detroit Red Wings’ 2009 visit to the city.
With their four appearances, the Blackhawks have been a mainstay of this occasion over the years. All-time, the Blackhawks have participated in the Winter Classic the most of any team in NHL history when they host the St. Louis Blues the following season. It doesn’t actually have a big impact on the Cubs, comparatively.
The owners and the two leagues do not need to iron out a scheduling dispute because the game will be played on a rink across the infield.
In addition to allowing Chicago supporters to see their favorite hockey team in a stadium they are extremely familiar with, this will also allow fans of other sports to view the legendary Wrigley Field venue in a new light.
