Baseball America’s Top 100 includes five Cubs prospects.
Five Cubs prospects were included in Baseball America’s Top 100 prospects for the upcoming 2024 season (sub. req.). The fact that all five of them were in the top 50 prospects is even more remarkable.
The quintet of players consists of:
Pete Crow-Armstrong of the 18.
24. RHP Cade Horton
31. Matt Shaw, an SS
Michael Busch, 3B, 43
47. Owen Caissie, OF
Additionally, the Baltimore Orioles had one prospect in the Top 100 and five in the Top 50. Only the Brewers, with three, had more than two players in the Top 50 among the other teams in the league.
There may have been even more Cubs players in the Top 100. Outfielder Kevin Alcántara and catcher Moises Ballesteros were two of the 15 players who “just missed” the Top 100 rankings according to Baseball America. Baseball America also said this year that they would no longer rank foreign professionals as prospects; nevertheless, they added that new Cubs left-hander Shōta Imanaga would have been placed 89th if they had continued to do so.
No organization has more prospects than Baseball Prospectus, which released its list of the Top 101 prospects earlier this week (free registration required). the nine Cubs that were listed by BP. Who were the nine Cubs?
Pete Crow-Armstrong OF, page 20
21. If Matt Shaw
27. RHP Cade Horton
65. Owen Caissie, OF
71. Two-Ball Michael Busch
Kevin Alcántara OF, 80
Moises Ballesteros C., 84
James Triantos, 3B, is 91.
However, as these two rankings demonstrate, the Cubs’ current farm system is held in high respect. The Cubs farm system last boasted this many quality minor league prospects in the 2013–14 season, and we all know what transpired a couple years later.
