Breaking: Trent Jr., Schröder, and Brown are attracting “significant interest” from the Raptors.
It’s possible that the Toronto Raptors are just getting started as they dominate the NBA before to the trade deadline. With the trades of Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers and OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks, the Raptors are assembling a youthful core in Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley.
After this season, Trent Jr. will be a free agent. As such, a team trying to clear cap space may trade Trent Jr. to Toronto for young talent or salary filler. Trent Jr.’s two-way impact could help a struggling team like the Los Angeles Lakers or Golden State Warriors get over the hump and prepared to make a deep playoff run, all for the low cost of a future draft pick or a young player. However, there is no guarantee that Trent Jr. will be a long-term piece for a team going forward.
In addition, Schröder and Brown can be great pieces because championship windows are closing in California. Schröder has demonstrated his ability to lead well off the bench and function as a reliable point guard when called upon. Schröder is the man to call if a western club needs some insurance in the backcourt. With a deal that expires after the next season, the veteran guard is not overly demanding and is a desirable addition given his 68 career postseason games.
Bruce Brown has finally won an NBA championship. That’s typically a very strong selling point, but his Denver Nuggets bench spark from the previous season wasn’t overlooked. He can lead a bench squad and possesses the playoff experience that makes him desirable to contenders.
