Just in: A new recruit strengthens Ravens Practice Squad
A day before their final regular-season game against the Steelers, the Ravens formally added running back Dalvin Cook to their practice squad. This week, the four-time Pro Bowl running back was released by the Jets to join a playoff contender.
Robert Saleh, head coach of the Jets, remarked, “Just good for business for everybody.” “Ever since he first arrived, Dalvin has been an amazing teammate. Needless to say, none of us expected things to turn out this way. He has been an amazing mentor to the young guys and a fantastic teammate. Although I’m aware of his pain, which isn’t physical, he still wants to be there for the team. I’m confident he’ll excel in every chance that comes his way.”
Melvin Gordon III was promoted to the 53-man roster by the Ravens after rookie Keaton Mitchell’s season-ending injury, but Cook would provide more depth and allow Baltimore to consider moving him up from the practice squad during the playoffs.During his four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Cook amassed over 1,100 yards of rushing, solidifying his status as one of the league’s best running backs. But Cook was cut by the Vikings in June, and he started filling in for Breece Hall in New York. Cook has ran for 214 yards and caught 15 catches for 78 yards in 15 games. As of now this season, he has not scored a touchdown.
Although Cook has experience and skill, the Ravens’ offense may benefit from his presence later in the postseason. Gus Edwards and Justice Hill lead Baltimore’s backfield.
