Brynn McGaughy, a 5-star prospect for Iowa women’s basketball, has committed to Washington
Five-star forward Brynn McGaughy decided to sign to the Washington Huskies despite Iowa being one of the shortlist schools. The 6-foot-3 forward, ranked by ESPN as the No. 17 prospect in the 2025 class, chose Washington over other finalists Iowa, Connecticut, Duke, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA, Utah, and USC.
In the end, McGaughy decided to remain at home. This past season, McGaughy—a Colfax, Washington native—made SB Live’s Class 2B all-state Washington first team. The previous year, McGaughy, a sophomore, averaged 21.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game to lead Colfax to a state championship.
Even though McGaughy won’t be joining Iowa’s class, this shows that the Hawkeyes are still considering their options, especially on the West Coast. Five-star guard Addie Deal, who will graduate from Mater Dei High School in California in the 2025 class, has already committed to the Hawkeyes. According to ESPN, Deal is the No. 12 player in the 2025 class.
“Our footprint is a little bit larger. Two things have most likely transpired since the Megan Gustafson period. We learned more about the US scene. Next up is Caitlin and the Big Ten’s growth.
“As of late, the Big Ten has taken on a significance that makes it seem less remote and less like you are leaving California because, well, it is a part of the conference. Over the past five years, we’ve been busting it in a number of different ways. “Let me tell you, Raina, Abby, and Lisa, all of us, we just do what you have to do if you want to pursue greatness,” Jan Jensen, the head coach of Iowa’s women’s basketball team, remarked.
Journey Houston, a four-star guard out of Iowa’s Davenport North High School, has also committed to Iowa. According to ESPN, the 5-foot-11 guard is rated as the No. 50 prospect in the 2025 class.
Divine Bourrage, Houston’s teammate, is also being recruited by Iowa. ESPN has Bourrage ranked as the fourth best player in the 2025 class. The Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year award went to the 5-foot-10 guard. In addition, the Hawkeyes are vying for five-star center Layla Hays and guards Emilee Skinner and Jordan Speiser.
