The topic of what ought to be on the Charlotte Hornets’ Christmas wish list seemed like a terrific idea, especially since it’s Christmas.
There is no question about the top present on the list. Seeing as how Santa is one of the top players in the league at his position, the Hornets simply aren’t as good of a team without their trademark point guard. Fans of the Hornets haven’t been able to witness his imaginative playmaking and floor poetry due to injuries sustained over the past few seasons. In order for the Hornets to be competitive and possibly win basketball, LaMelo Ball needs to be healthy.
In addition to being a terrific guy in the locker room, Hayward provides consistency and a soothing presence on the surface. Even so, he is in the last year of his contract and will clearly not be included in the team’s long-term plans. It is better to get something from his departure than to let him walk in free agency at the end of the season, even if I am aware that he might not result in a first-round choice.
It’s evident from Bridges’ performance night after night that the year off hasn’t truly affected him. Comparably to two years ago, he is achieving similar results. I’m not sure if he will be able to outperform that production, though. I believe he’s reached his pinnacle. With the prospect of a new head coach and front office setup, it makes sense to let him go by the deadline as he is just under a one-year contract.
I understand, in part, Mitch Kupchak’s patience in assembling this roster. However, without an All-Star player to complement La-Melo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Mark Williams the squad’s core this team will never be able to advance to the next level. Naturally, the front office attitude needs to change since I don’t think Kupchak will be in Charlotte for very long.
