Even though Anthony Richardson’s on-field rookie year is finished, he continues to work with the Indianapolis Colts. The No. 4 overall choice in the 2023 NFL Draft has returned to the team’s facilities and the sidelines to complete his rehabilitation and log some mental repetitions to cap out his first season.
Steichen stated on the team website, “Obviously, he’s not taking the reps, but he’s taking the mental reps in the classroom with us, still going through the game plan meetings.” Thus, even when he’s watching games from the sidelines, he’s listening to the calls and getting that cerebral exercise. I believe that going through that will be significant throughout the initial phase of the procedure.”
Richardson’s explosiveness was evident in all four games, but his hard-charging approach also carried a risk of injury. Richardson had to have surgery on his injured throwing shoulder, which cut short his rookie season, but there were signs of promise. In four starts, he scored four touchdowns on the ground and three passing.
Right now, 2024 is everything—at least for Richardson. Richardson sustained his injury against the Tennessee Titans on October 8 and underwent surgery in Los Angeles on October 24. According to the team website, he has returned to the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center to continue his rehabilitation.
