Prospect From The Raptors Signs New Agreement With The Wizards
Justin Champagnie, a former forward for the Toronto Raptors, has agreed to a 10-day deal with the Washington Wizards.
As a promising rookie with the Raptors, Champagnie spent portions of two seasons in Toronto, occasionally making it into the starting lineup. After being left off the draft in 2021, he made 36 appearances for Toronto in 2021–2022. He appeared to be a bench player at times, someone the team could use for rebounding and wing depth.
However, injuries ruined his sophomore season, and Toronto ended up waiving Champagnie last season.
With the Sioux Falls Skyforce this season, Champagnie has been outstanding, averaging 23 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. However, he hasn’t improved his three-point shooting since going 40.9 in his Raptors 905 rookie campaign.
Champagnie ought to have a chance to play on one of the poorest teams in the league in Washington. This season, some younger, developing players will get playing time as the Wizards embark on a rebuilding project.
With the exception of Scottie Barnes, Toronto’s 2021 draft class is now completely depleted. Along with David Johnson and Dalano Banton, Champagnie was added. Johnson is a member of the Memphis Hustle, while Banton currently plays for the Portland Trail Blazers.
In order to add a 10-day player to accompany DJ Carton, who signed with the Raptors on Wednesday, Toronto still has one open roster space.
