Prior to their Week 12 Thanksgiving Day game against the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions have declared themselves inactive, and they are once again largely healthy.
The Lions had a 53-man roster going into Week 12, but they added offensive tackle Michael Schofield and defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna, bringing Detroit’s game-day roster up to 55 men.
The Lions are able to increase their game-day roster from 47 to 48 players since they will have eight offensive linemen available for Sunday’s contest. The Lions must therefore declare seven players inactive for today’s game because there are 48 players who are eligible to participate and 55 on the game-day roster.
Lions in-actives:
- EDGE Julian Okwara
- OL Jonah Jackson (ankle/wrist) โย Ruled out on Wednesday
- DT Isaiah Buggs (illness)
- DT Brodric Martin
- WR Antoine Green
- LB Trevor Nowaske
- CB Steven Gilmore
It is anticipated that youngster Colby Sorsdal would start at left guard for the second straight game in place of Jackson, who will miss his second straight game due to injury. Sorsdal, who played right tackle as a replacement for an injured player early in the season, will be making his third start of the year (he previously began at right guard). This will be his fourth offensive game in which he has received snaps.
Although Buggs’ ailment is still recorded, it is possible that he was benched to make place for Bohanna, who is coming off a strong performance against the Bears last week, because he was not given an injury designation.
Given his recent use, Okwara’s decision to sit as the Lions insert a now-healthy Levi Onwuzurike into the starting lineup is a bit surprising.
The rookies Martin, Green, Nowaske, and Gilmore are squeezed out by a very healthy Lions roster for the second week in a row.
Packers in-actives:
- WR Dontayvion Wicks
- RB Aaron Jones
- TE Josiah Deguara
- OT Caleb Jones
- LB DeโVondre Campbell
- CB Jaire Alexander
- S Rudy Ford
Okwara not playing is a bit of a surprise considering his usage of late but he sits as the Lions promote a now-healthy Levi Onwuzurike into the lineup.
